Dr. Jennifer Vanbeck

Dr. Jennifer Vanbeck ————

Before pursuing a career in clinical psychology, I studied at the University of Rochester, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (with an Art History minor) and graduated Magna Cum Laude. My journey led me to Widener University, where I completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. While there, I had the opportunity to work at the Caron Foundation, a nationally recognized substance abuse program, during my residency and later at the Renfrew Center, a renowned treatment facility for eating disorders. These experiences gave me invaluable training in working with individuals struggling with complex mental health issues.

Originally from Long Island, New York, I’ve worked with a diverse range of clients, including adolescents and adults, many of whom face challenges like anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. My passion lies in helping young men and women, particularly those in their late teens and early thirties, navigate the complexities of early adulthood—whether it's self-esteem struggles, perfectionism, or the stress of life transitions. I provide a safe, empathetic space where clients can explore their emotions, uncover the roots of their difficulties, and develop the coping skills they need to thrive.

Today, I continue to integrate evidence-based practices into my work, drawing from years of specialized training to help my clients gain the self-awareness and strength needed to lead fulfilling lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Therapy Right For Me?

Therapy can be a valuable tool for anyone looking to address challenges like anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, or life transitions. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or want to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, therapy offers a supportive environment to work through emotional pain and develop practical coping skills. It’s constructive for those ready to take responsibility for their well-being and work towards personal growth.

What can I expect from each Therapy Session?

Each therapy session is tailored to your unique needs and goals. Sessions typically last about 50 minutes and can be short-term or long-term, depending on the issues you want to address. Therapy is a collaborative process where you'll explore the root causes of your struggles while learning practical tools to manage emotions and navigate life’s challenges. You might also be asked to apply what you've learned outside of sessions to maximize the benefits.

Do you accept insurance?

I operate as an out-of-network provider, so I don’t bill insurance directly. However, many clients with out-of-network benefits receive significant reimbursement by submitting invoices to their insurance provider. I encourage you to check with your insurance company to understand your out-of-network mental health services coverage. I’ll bill your payment method on the same day as our appointment, and I accept credit cards, Venmo, checks, and HSA/FSA funds.

Is medication a substitute for therapy?

While medication can be an essential part of treatment, especially for conditions like anxiety and depression, it is often most effective when combined with therapy. Therapy addresses the underlying causes of distress, helping you make lasting changes in behavior and thought patterns that medication alone cannot achieve.

Is Our Time Together Confidential?

Yes, everything we discuss is confidential. Information shared in sessions is protected by law, with few exceptions, such as cases of child or elder abuse or if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. I will always prioritize your privacy and talk to you about any situations where confidentiality may need to be broken.
