The Cost of Treatment

As a private pay therapist, I offer a straightforward financial arrangement without the hassle of dealing with insurance companies directly. I am an out-of-network provider, which means while I do not bill insurance directly, many clients receive substantial reimbursements (often ranging from 50% to 80% of the total cost). My fee is $275 for a 50 minute session. This rate is commensurate with current rates for doctoral-level Psychologists with the level of experience and expertise I have. As an extra benefit of working with me, I will electronically submit out-of-network claims for you so you don’t have to send a superbill or contact your insurance company to get reimbursed, which usually results in faster and more complete reimbursement to you.

I am very familiar with how out-of-network benefits work and am happy to explain them to you. I always recommend clients call their insurance companies for confirmation.

Insurance and Billing

To understand your out-of-network benefits, contact your insurance provider and inquire about:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?

  • What is the rate covered by my insurance for a doctoral level Licensed Clinical Psychologist? (Masters-level therapists get lower reimbursements from insurance companies, so you want to ensure that you’re reimbursed at a higher rate).

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health visits? Has any amount of my deductible been met this year? Your deductible is the amount that you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance begins to pay.

  • What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient individual therapy? Co-insurance is the amount that you pay out of pocket, per service, after your deductible has been met.

  • What is the rate covered by my insurance for these CPT codes? 90791 (new patient evaluation), 90834 (38-45 minute psychotherapy), 90837 (53-60 minute psychotherapy).

  • Do I have coverage for out of network telehealth visits?
